IF
you like "About," the FREE process monitor that I wrote,
AND
you use KanjiTalk 7.1 or the Japanese Language Kit,
THEN
you should get ABAUTO.
ABAUTO is the Japanese version of About, translation courtesy of Matsubayashi
Kohji (matubays@kodachi.ics.es.osaka-u.ac.jp). Not only did Matsubayashi-san
translate the program's resources, but he translated all the documentation as
well!
The folder and file names of this archive are in Japanese. If you're using the
JLK, these may appear as garbage characters. To read them, switch your font
for
views to Osaka-9 using the Views control panel. Or, just rename them to the
English equivalents.

Submission for info-mac: Dunjin 4.4, a text adventure game.
(BinHexed Compact Pro archive)
Dunjin version 4.4 is a shareware text adventure game for Macs, in the
Infocom tradition. Although this is a traditional text game, I have
tried to make use of the Mac's user interface. It is possible to
cut-and-paste text from the text window, there is a "movement compass"
that lets you move about by clicking on directions, and some of the
most common commands can be performed just by clicking on buttons on a
"command palette". Of course, it's still a text adventure - no pretty
pictures, I'm afraid...
Enjoy!

Subject: [*] Jotto 1.0 (word game)
Jotto is a simple word game based on logic and frustration.
The computer will pick a five-letter word from a 2000+ word
database, and you have 15 tries to guess it. You will get
feedback on how many letters in your guess are in the actual
word, but beware: each guess must be a valid five-letter word,
or you will not get any feedback about it at all.
Jotto 1.0 is free; there is no shareware fee. It supports color,
grayscale, and B/W monitors and works under system 6 or 7.
(For technical reasons, sounds may require system 6.0.7 or later.)
Please e-mail comments and suggestions to the author at
f8dy@netaxs.com (Mark Pilgrim).
This game was designed, programmed, debugged, and thoroughly
tested in less than 24 hours, in the spirit of B&D Productions.
(Please do not e-mail the author asking what this means. It's an
Apple II thing; you wouldn't understand. :)
Jotto 1.0 is copyright 1993 Mark Pilgrim, MerriMac Software Group.

Subject: [*] MacTCP patch
Howdy,
This is a little application that will alter the MacTCP driver to
incorporate Peter Lewis' patch. You will need a virgin copy of MacTCP,
version 1.1.1 for this process. MacTCP 1.1.1 is not included in this
upload -- it is a commercial product. I also understand that this problem
is fixed in MacTCP 2.03 and the upcoming MacTCP 3.
Please report any problems to igorl@uiuc.edu. Many thanks to Peter for
providing the patch information in the first place and Michael Hecht for
the splendid utility ResCompare that compiled this patch.

Subject: [*] Nexus 1.1.cpt.hqx
Please put this file in the game/bolo directory to replace the file
nexus-10.hqx. Thanks!!!
Here is Nexus version 1.1. The most interesting new feature is the
pillbox radar view which gives you a continuous view out of your
pillboxes. It still has a few problems which I haven't been able to
resolve but it should still work quite well. If you want to know if
someone else is running Nexus just send them a "/who" message and if
they are it will send you back a message describing the version info.
Anyway, here is the introduction in the About file...
Nexus is a Bolo cyborg which improves your performance. It should be
compatible with at least Bolo 0.99.1 and higher. It has the following
features:
- Extra key controls to control some building actions;
- Automated road building;
- Restricted automatic mine clearing abilities;
- Automatic harvesting of forest;
- Automatic random mine dropping;
- Navigational information about tanks, pillboxes and bases;
- Wide area radar showing a larger view of the area around you;
- Radar views for pillboxes;
- Sends version information to any player who asks.
Enjoy,
Alex.

Subject: [*] SAM Installer Scripts
In response to some complaints on the Internet
regarding the un-intuitive installer script for
Symmantec's popular virus program SAM* 3.5.
Symmantec's script will not do an installation
if you have replaced the original Virus Definition
file. Go figure! I don't know about you, but I
update mine when necessary on the original disks.
I have created my own scripts which should work
fine. I have System 7.1, and I know it works there,
but I also have created a System 6 installer. It
should work fine, but I have no place to test it.
Only the target folders have changed. These scripts
only recognize the Virus Definitions file on the
Decontamination Disk, so make sure that is where
you place your updated Definition file.
If you decide to use these, please just e-mail me
and let me know that you have used it. Also, let
me know about any troubles you may have. I can be

Subject: [*] simple speech manager translation to pascal code
I have little experience in C and was grateful for the posting, in C,
of speech manager routine calls. It gave me an opportunity to make a
simple exercise to value learning C in the future by the book.
In the following, I paste my C to pascal code translation of a
submission of a quick hack on this archive by Alan Coopersmith as
/info-mac/dev/mac-speech-01.hqx. It was a lot of fun to figure this simple
translation with a kid I mentor and then go on late into the night to make
the compiling linking and execution work.
I tried to comment the code with some of my hard won understanding.
Perhaps this brief segment will improve others courage as it has mine.
I had a lot of psychological inertia to get moving into enthusiastic
momentum.
I look forward to translating Alexander W. Kourakos' C demo with Paul
Traue, my mentor-kid. Povl H. Pedersen has given me some reassurance.
Notice what I am trying to say is this isn't much of a boast for me,
just a sense of remarkable joy that I can hook into new system extensions
>From apple with pinterfaces. A few years ago the only guys I knew about
who did real stuff with new rom calls worked in a garage well above my
league... A few years later, I thought that was guys who made modula
module (managers) who as far as I could see might as well have been also
making computers or computer languages. Its in my league now!

Simple as that.
Snap-To will increase your speed when using a Macintosh,
especially if you use dialogs often and/or have a large

Snap-To's features include:
* A Control Panel interface, which allows easy
customization of several of Snap-To's features.
* The ability for Snap-To to draw default button outlines
around default buttons which normally wouldn't have them.
* Optional automatic disabling in Open and/or Save
dialogs.
* The ability for Snap-To to gradually move the cursor to
the default button, instead of abruptly snapping it
there.
* The ability for Snap-To to move the cursor back to its
original location after you have closed a dialog box.
* Improved snapping over version 1.0.

Subject: (R) Peanuts Icon Problem.
I'm not sure if it was the Peanut Icon I downloaded but the problem I
found is the Icon is there but it is invisible. I had to use Resedit
to change it to visible. Another way to tell is to try to extract the
Icon twice in the same directory if it is invisible it will ask you
if you want to delete it.
I hope this helps.

Subject: Colour Icons - a ResEdit question
Can anyone tell me how to persuade my system to use the colour icons in ic14
and ics8 instead of the B/W ones in ICN# and ics#?
I have a Sigma 19inch screen and driver card that works in two-bit greyscale
only (four greys!), and so the System thinks it's a B/W screen. Using
ResEdit, though, the screen will display the colour icons quite well in 4
levels
of grey so I'd like to use them. Funny thing is, the icons displayed in ICN#
are
all the B/W ones as well as the two types of colour ones from ic14 and ic8.
Can't get them to change, though.
I've tried copying the ic14 resource and pasting it into ICN#, replacing the
same IDs, but that doesn't seem to work - maybe I've done it wrong!
I suspect there's a resource somewhere which tells the System which type of
icon to use, but I can't find it!
Some things do display in grey - like the ResEdit Jack-in-box opening screen,
the mouse in the mouse cdev and the Flying Toasters in After Dark.
Any help greatly appreciated!
Cheers

Hi there,
I'm trying to mount a 3.5" PLI drive in the 5.25" CD-ROM bay of a
Centris 650. PLI apparently doesn't make brackets to perform such a feat.
Can somebody suggest a source for the appropriate bracket or an alternate
solution? If you could respond directly to me as well as the list, I'd
appreciate it.
Thanks,

This really burns me up.
I finally got my SoftPC 3.0 Upgrade in early July. I placed the
order in April and it was promptly lost. I was told that the Post
Office lost over 1,000 orders coming in. OK, I'll buy that. Now
they have released Version 3.1 which is going to cost me more than
3.0 did. This sounds like "oops we didn't do it right" Let's screw
our customers to make it up. As an aside, I would rather not use any
Intel based software, but I work for a State Agency and some of the
required accounting records must be sent in their format and I don't
have the time to create new databases to match theirs.

Subject: X-terminal
I have a SUN Workstation at work, runnning Open Windows (with X capability).
I have a MAC Classic at home, and am currently using RedRider10.0 to remotely
access the Sun.
I'd much prefer to configure the MAC as an X-Terminal.
I've searched through the entire all-files.txt, and am unable to locate
anything
which might be associated with Xterm, except for "mac-as-xterm.txt"; this in
turn references "MacX" - but I can find no string "MacX" in the
all-files.txt.
Can you give me a hint where to look? (And what strings should I search for
--
I'm doing this on a unix system, so everything is case-sensative.)
Thanks.

The Speech Manager Docs (and any other files whose file type

format. This can be found on ftp.apple.com, as

I have been in contact with Mitch Bayersdorfer <mdb@apple.com> who is
the project manager in charge of the 32-bit enabler. They are considering
an update and would like users of the 32-bit enabler and those who tried
it and went back to MODE32 to provide feedback to them. Please e-mail
specific problems you have had using the 32-bit enabler, in particular
programs that crash under the 32-bit enabler but not MODE32, as well
as comments about why your favor one over the other. Again, these bug
reports and comments should be sent to Mr. Bayersdorfer at mdb@apple.com.
THE LEVEL OF A RESPONSE THAT APPLE GETS ON THIS WILL DIRECTLY EFFECT
IF AND/OR WHEN WE SEE AN UPDATE. MAKE YOUR FEELINGS KNOWN!!!
